REINSTATED RACE WIN SEES MORRIS & HILLSPEED BECOME F4 VICE-CHAMPIONS

8 Oct 2013

Derbyshire-based BRDC Formula 4 Championship team Hillspeed is celebrating today, Tuesday, 8th October, after the MSA (Motor Sports Association) national court overturned a ruling where series officials excluded Seb Morris from round 20 of the season at Snetterton in Norfolk.

Having secured a superb race victory, his first in the category, during the penultimate race meeting of the campaign, the 17-year-old was initially removed from the results classification when BRDC F4 technical chiefs alleged his car to have broken eligibility rules with the gurney flap on the rear wing.

Confident the flap was within the regulations, team and driver protested the exclusion and following today’s hearing the win was rightfully reinstated. This means Seb has moved from third in the final championship standings into the Vice-Champion’s position.

“On behalf of everyone at Hillspeed, I’d like to say how delighted we all are to have the Snetterton win given back to us – it was a very hard-earned success which Seb thoroughly deserved after a really fantastic drive”, said team principal Richard Ollerenshaw.

“We were always highly confident the court would find the case in our favour, there was never any question the gurney flap was within the stated dimensions given in the championship regulations. To end the inaugural F4 season third overall was a good achievement, to now be Vice-Champions is absolutely fantastic.”

Hillspeed, of course, ended the BRDC Formula 4 Championship campaign with two drivers in the coveted series top 10 with Struan Moore ninth overall in the standings. Claiming four podiums in total, he took a memorable debut victory at Snetterton during round eight.

Morris ended the year with one win and nine other podiums while Malaysian driver Rahul Raj Mayer concluded his first season of racing in the UK in 17th place in the championship, with a best result of 12th position on three occasions.

Hillspeed will be back in BRDC Formula 4 action on 9th/10th November at Snetterton 300 Circuit for the opening four races of the 2013 Winter Series. Brands Hatch Indy Circuit will host the second quartet of outings on 23rd/24th November.
