HILLSPEED DRIVER COACH SHAWYER TO FOCUS ON BRDC F4 IN 2014
Experienced driver coach and race instructor Matt Shawyer, an integral part of the Hillspeed team’s activities across a variety of championships in recent years, is to focus his work with the Hathersage squad on its flagship BRDC Formula 4 Championship operation in 2014 it is confirmed today.
Having played a central role in the team’s title victories in Protyre Formula Renault and Ginetta Junior, as well as its race-winning success in Formula 4 and the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup, the 31-year-old is regarded as one of the most well respected coaches in national motorsport.
While Shawyer will continue to work closely with Hillspeed’s engineers in the team’s Ginetta and Formula Renault operations, in addition to its growing commitments in the Funcup, his trackside involvement will mainly cover BRDC Formula 4.
“Matt’s role in the team is changing this year”, commented Hillspeed’s Richard Ollerenshaw, “He won’t be trackside as much after recently becoming a father so he’s chosen to concentrate his work with the team on our BRDC Formula 4 commitments.
“He’s still going to have valuable input into our operations in each of the other championships we’ll be contesting in 2014, just not ‘hands-on’ at the track each weekend. We fully understand his wishes to spend more time with his young family, Matt has been an integral part of Hillspeed’s success story over the last few years and will continue to be so going forward.”
