LIMA CONFIDENT OF JOINING TITLE FIGHT
Hillspeed’s Gustavo Lima is optimistic of launching a title charge after taking his maiden F4 win last time out at Brands Hatch.
Starting from pole position for race two of the weekend, Lima led the whole race despite a race long challenge from Chris Middlehurst, with the pair separated at the line by just 0.044s – the closest ever F4 finish.
“I was really happy to finally take the first win” Lima comments. “I’ve been looking for it since last year and at Brands Hatch I finally got it! It gives me even more confidence to fight for the title and I know I can win more races.”
Despite the close attentions of Middlehurst, Lima felt he had the race under control at all times, despite a last lap moment which allowed the British driver to close up on him.
“I had control of the situation during the whole race. It was only at the final corner I made one mistake and he caught up with me, and we finished the race side by side. It was a really close one!”
With the first win now under his belt after switching to the Hillspeed team during the off-season, Lima is now targeting a championship challenge. Currently eighth in the championship and 69 points behind current leader George Russell, the Brazilian will need more regular wins and podiums to make inroads into the margin.
“My goal for this season is to win the championship. I know we have a good car and I’m ready for it, I’m working really well with the Hillspeed team, we have a good group of guys and we’ve built a strong relationship and this results in us doing a good job!”
