•    Strong pace from Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing in British F3 test
•    Great consistency from rookie Jordan Cane with top six time overall
•    Fellow newcomer Chase Owen also in coveted top 10 with P9 time
•    New signing Nick Worm flies in from native Germany for ‘official’ debut
Jordan Cane delivered on his BRDC British Formula 3 Championship winter testing promise during the officially timed ‘Media Day’ outing at Snetterton on Tuesday, 28th March, after concluding the run sixth fastest overall for the Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing team.

British teenager Cane, who will make his British F3 race debut following his 16th birthday in May, meaning he misses the opening events of the season at Oulton Park and Rockingham, turned heads with excellent pace at the wheel of his striking yellow and white Tatuus-Cosworth car.

Beginning the day with the fourth fastest time in session one, the 15-year-old was fourth again in session two, fifth in the third run and sixth in session four with his quickest lap of the day, a time of 1m44.049 seconds (102.72mph), to conclude the outing sixth quickest overall.

American team-mate Chase Owen, like Cane a newcomer to British F3, made it two Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing cars in the top nine thanks to a best lap of 1m44.474 seconds (102.30mph) in the fourth and final session.

The 24-year-old, from Houston in Texas, was eighth quickest in session one, an improved seventh in the second run and 12th in session three before upping his pace, like the majority of the grid, in the concluding outing of the day. He ended the test within 0.9 seconds of the top of the timesheets and just 0.4 seconds behind Cane.

Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing’s third driver, brand new signing Nick Worm, enjoyed some very useful running mere hours after signing an eleventh-hour deal with the team to contest the 2017 British F3 season.

Waking at 2am in his native Germany on Tuesday, in order to catch a flight to Birmingham from Dusseldorf, the 16-year-old then travelled from the West Midlands across to Norfolk. Missing the opening run as a result, he ventured onto track in session two and went on to find a full 0.7 seconds in session three – ending the day with a best lap of 1m47.682 seconds (99.25mph).

“We’re all really happy overall”, said team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “I think we’re there or thereabouts, Jordan and Chase were strong today and Nick did everything we could have asked on his first time on track with the full British F3 field.

“Nick faced a huge challenge for Snetterton – he had to get up at 2am to fly from Germany to Birmingham with his father, and then the long journey across to Snetterton. It was the first time he’d been out in a proper session with the other drivers, that in itself was quite a challenge, and he made a significant step between the first two sessions. We’re pleased with his overall progress.”

There is little more than a fortnight to wait until the opening three rounds of the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship take place at Oulton Park International Circuit, Cheshire, over Easter weekend – on Saturday, 15th April, and Easter Monday, 17th April.
