HILLSPEED RELEASES MASSOT FROM GINETTA GT SUPERCUP CONTRACT
Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup team Hillspeed and Spanish driver Pepe Massot have today, Friday, 28th June, mutually agreed to part ways at the halfway point of the 2013 season.
Team principal Richard Ollerenshaw has released Massot from his contract with the Hathersage squad to enable the teenage racer to pursue other opportunities, specifically ones with an increased amount of testing time available.
Due to Hillspeed’s extensive 2013 commitments, namely participation in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Junior Championship, Protyre Formula Renault Championship and BRDC Formula 4 Championship, chances for additional testing with the team during the year have been limited.
Team and driver both part company on excellent terms after a successful 18 month association which delivered two race wins and five other podiums in Ginetta Junior in 2012 and a pair of race victories in the Ginetta GT Supercup during the first half of this year.
“We can confirm today Hillspeed has released Pepe from his contract”, said Ollerenshaw, “We’re obviously very sorry to see him leave the fold but it has been decided, due to our commitments across a number of championships, it is only fair Pepe has the opportunity to undertake additional testing with teams who are able to work around his travel to and from the UK.
“It was decided by mutual agreement, between Xavier Massot [Pepe’s father] and myself, given the success Pepe had enjoyed with Hillspeed during the first half of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup season, we would release him early from his contract to pursue other options. Of course, everyone at Hillspeed wishes Pepe all the very best in his future endeavours.”
