HILLSPEED CLOSING ON BRDC F4 DEAL WITH SOUTH AFRICAN RACER LANZETTI
Race winning BRDC Formula 4 Championship team Hillspeed is closing on a 2015 deal with teenage talent Sebastian Lanzetti, having this week completed a highly successful winter testing programme with the 18-year-old in northern Spain.
Lanzetti, who has dual Italian and South African nationality, joined the successful British team as part of its 10 day encampment at the Circuito de Calafat in Catalunya where the squad had fully exclusive use of the track and its facilities.
Forming part of the youngster’s preparations for his planned UK single-seater debut next year, the test went particularly well and Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw is confident Lanzetti would be a serious contender in BRDC Formula 4.
“Sebastian was mega quick at Calafat”, said a mightily impressed Ollerenshaw, “He’s a fantastic young talent and a great kid as well, I’ve got no doubt at all he would be a strong competitor in BRDC Formula 4 next year – that’s the deal we’re working towards.
“He worked very well with the team in Spain, struck-up a great relationship with our driver coach Matt Shawyer and was very impressive indeed. His ability and passion for racing really shone through. The move from racing in South Africa to the UK will be a big step in competitiveness, but from what we’ve seen over the last few days Sebastian has the potential to go far in motor racing.”
Beginning his competitive motorsport career in karts in 2009 in South Africa, Lanzetti made rapid progress and earned a wildcard entry into the prestigious ROK World Finals two years later. In 2012 he made his car racing debut in the South African Formula Ford Championship and also dovetailed the programme with a season and a half in Formula VW.
Lanzetti also continued his karting career up until this year, winning the x30 Shifter Kart category in 2013 which led to a fully-funded drive in the IAME World Finals. Now, the teenager is working hard to finalise the budget needed to contest his first season in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship.
“I had a fantastic time with the Hillspeed guys at Calafat”, said Lanzetti, “Everything was so positive from beginning to end, we completed over 900 kilometres and I really did enjoy driving the BRDC F4 car – it’s where I want to be racing in 2015 for sure.
“I know I need to test myself against the best drivers out there, so moving to the UK and racing in BRDC F4 will be the perfect step for me. We’re talking to our current sponsors, and some potential sponsors too, to make sure we can get the full budget in place and hopefully we can agree a race deal with Hillspeed as early as possible in the New Year. These are exciting times for me!”
