Indian motor racing rookie Ameya Vaidyanathan has today, Monday, 23rd March, been confirmed as Hillspeed’s third driver signing for the Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship, completing the race-winning team’s 2015 line-up.

London-based Vaidyanathan, who has no prior motorsport experience whatsoever, makes the leap into BRDC F4 – one of the globe’s most hotly-contested junior single-seater categories – off the back of an extensive winter testing programme with the Derbyshire squad.

Embarking on his first test in one of the Pirelli-shod MSV F4-013 cars last Autumn, the 18-year-old made good progress. After travelling to Spain with Hillspeed for winter testing, Vaidyanathan has since racked up vital mileage at the circuits which will feature on this year’s BRDC F4 calendar.

Team principal Richard Ollerenshaw says while Vaidyanathan will face a steep learning curve in his first year, the youngster – who is part of the Comtek Driver Development stable – will certainly make good strides as team-mate to South Africa’s Sebastian Lanzetti and Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair.

“We’re obviously very pleased to work with Ameya and Comtek for his maiden season in racing”, said the Hillspeed boss, “The relationship was formed in the Autumn of last year and since then we’ve worked on trying to bring Ameya up-to-speed as much as possible.

“There’s a huge amount for him to learn, especially in a championship as competitive as F4, but he’s improving and starting to show a good understanding of what’s required. After enjoying plenty of time in the car during our winter tests in Spain, and since then at the main UK tracks, we’re feeling confident Ameya will make good progress during the season.”

Having completed his studies at Eton College, Vaidyanathan is now focused on a career in motor racing and the teenager’s manager, Vaughan Davies, says his young charge is looking forward greatly to his competitive debut at Oulton Park in Cheshire on 4th/5th/6th April.

“Ameya is very much looking forward to his first season of motor racing”, commented Davies, “After finishing his schooling, he came to us at Comtek and we then started testing with Hillspeed at the end of last year. After running in Spain, we have also tested at most circuits in the UK so Ameya is as well prepared as he can be for his first season.”

Ahead of the start of the Duo BRDC F4 Championship season at Oulton Park a fortnight from now, the series ‘Media Day’ will take place at Brands Hatch in Kent this coming Wednesday, 25th March.
