'Catie's Amazing Machines' Featuring Hillspeed To Make TV Premiere On Monday
Leading BRDC British Formula 3 Championship team Hillspeed is to feature on national television this coming Monday, 15th October, as part of the brand new series of pre-school BBC show Catie’s Amazing Machines on the CBeebies channel.
Along with first-year British F3 driver Ben Hurst, Hathersage-based Hillspeed travelled to Anglesey in North Wales recently where presenter of the show Catie Munnings had the opportunity to sample the Canadian racer’s 150mph-plus Tatuus-Cosworth car.
Footage from the day forms a key part of the very first episode of the new CBeebies show, a programme dedicated to ‘Racing Machines’ which aims to shine an entertaining and insightful light on the world of competitive motorsport for young children.
Marking Catie’s first experience behind the wheel of a Formula 3 single-seater, the rally driver – who won the 2016 Ladies FIA European Rally Championship crown – thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the support of Hurst and the Hillspeed squad.
“We all had a great time at Anglesey with Catie and the TV production crew and we were delighted to be part of this fantastic programme for young kids”, commented Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “Hopefully the show helps to bring Formula 3 and motor racing in general to a young audience, which is so important for the future of our sport.
“Ben played a key role on the day in helping to get Catie acclimatised to his F3 car, explaining the intricacies and how to understand what the car is doing out on track. All in all it was a great day and one we all enjoyed immensely.”
Hurst added: “I really enjoyed working with Catie. It was great to share the incredible experience of driving the F3 car with someone else in the motorsport world. I also enjoyed working with the film crew and seeing what that world was all about. Big thanks to the team for inviting me to join them.”
Originally from Oakville in Ontario, Hurst arrived on UK shores this year to make his debut in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship with Hillspeed after winning the Toyo Tires F1600 title on home ground in Canada.
In his first season in the ultra-competitive British F3 category, the 21-year-old has made good progress and ahead of the 2018 season finale at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this weekend, 13th/14th October, he has a best result of eighth place and is 16th in the championship standings.
Episode one of Catie’s Amazing Machines received its online premiere at the CBeebies iPlayer this past Monday but the actual TV premiere is scheduled for 16.30 this coming Monday, 15th October, on CBeebies across Freeview, digital satellite and cable platforms.
