Hillspeed confirm contract with James Littlejohn - 06.03.06
Hillspeed confirmed that it has signed 18 year old James Littlejohn of Warwick, runner up in the 2005 BRDC Single Seater Championship and winner of the 2004 Winter Series for the team’s entry into the BARC Formula Renault Championship this season.
James started his BARC Formula Renault testing programme with Hillspeed at Snetterton 2 weeks ago and immediately set times below those seen last season. This was again the case at Silverstone on Wednesday morning when James initially ran in BARC specification. After demonstrating his pace and ability the team changed the objective of the test day to see how competitively James could run in a TOCA specification car.
James continued to show his ability in the TOCA specification car, despite running on old rubber and the cold conditions the youngster ran consistently and finished the day only 0.6 seconds off the pole time. His chance to sample fresh rubber unfortunately never came when snow put an early end to the days proceedings.
James who is working with the teams driver coach Neil Cunningham is considered to be the man to beat in BARC Formula Renault, is now giving serious consideration to graduating to the TOCA Championship instead.
Richard Ollerenshaw Principle of Hillspeed Racing commented “James continues to impress us, considering his relative inexperience in cars of this type his performance is considerably ahead of what we would reasonably expected.”
Neil Cunningham “James has an undoubted talent and a particular skill in communicating handling characteristics to the team. Given the right support I believe that James could ultimately perform at International Level”
