Richard Singleton joins Hillspeed

Reigning BARC Formula Renault champion Richard Singleton has joined Hillspeed the Hathersage based team for the remainder of the season in the Formula Renault UK Championship.

Following a difficult start to the 2007 season the Conwy based driver elected to revert to his family run RS Racing operation that ran him in 2006. Richard Ollerenshaw was contacted prior to the Oulton Park rounds for his Hillspeed squad to run the car until the family operation was in a position to take over.

Following Singleton’s most successful weekend of 2007, with 4th and 5th places in rounds 9 and 10 of the Formula Renault UK Championship, a decision was made to join Hillspeed for the second half of the season.

Speaking on the signing of Singleton Richard Ollerenshaw commented that he was very happy that his team were contacted and given the opportunity to work with Richard. ‘We watched him last year in the BARC Formula Renault Championship when he was our main competitor, his potential was immediately clear. The mileage he has put in prior to the start of the season is not as great as a number of other drivers but I don’t feel this will cause us too much of a problem. We have now had the opportunity to sit down with Richard and set specific goals for us to achieve in the second half of year. He is a great lad who is a pleasure to work with and I feel we can continue to build on the performance we have shown this weekend’.

Singleton added ‘The weekend was a fantastic start for the team and myself. We knew one another from last season in the BARC Formula Renault Championship but there we were competing against one another. The Hillspeed operation is very good and everything instantly everything jelled. I was impressed by how quickly the team got to grips with the car. I know there is more to come from us as we work together and develop our relationship’.
