Independents Trophy BTCC Champ Ingram Applauded By Former Team Hillspeed

Recently crowned Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship ‘Independents Trophy’ Champion Tom Ingram has been roundly applauded by former team Hillspeed, the squad with which he won his first motor racing title in 2010, after his outstanding success in the UK’s highest profile series.

Just a week after fellow Hillspeed alumnus Seb Morris won the prized British GT Championship, Ingram wrapped-up the coveted Independents Trophy crown in style during the final weekend of the BTCC season at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit just over a week ago.

Piloting a Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis in touring cars for the past four seasons, in 2016 Ingram won his first BTCC race and added a second victory before the end of the campaign. This year he took four outright victories on his way to an impressive third in the overall BTCC title battle and also chalked-up no fewer than eight Independents class wins.

After starting out his motorsport career in karting, Ingram debuted in cars in 2009 in the Ginetta Junior Championship and after switching to Hathersage-based Hillspeed for the following season he dominated the category with five victories, 13 podiums, eight fastest laps and six pole positions.

Along with winning the Ginetta Junior title, Ingram’s success with Hillspeed also secured a prize test in a BTCC car. After moving into the Ginetta GT Supercup in 2011, he won the G50 title at his first attempt and then won the outright crown two years later ahead of his graduation into the BTCC.

Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw has kept a close eye on Ingram’s progress through the ranks since his Ginetta Junior title win for the team, and says he is absolutely thrilled the talented Buckingham driver has gone on to achieve such high levels of success.

“Tom has put together a fantastic season in touring cars, he richly deserves the Independents title and he and Speedworks did an exceptional job all year”, commented Ollerenshaw, “All of us here at Hillspeed are elated Tom’s career has gone on to reach such heights and who knows what next season could bring – he’s undoubtedly one of the top young drivers in the BTCC.

“Since he won the Ginetta Junior title with Hillspeed in 2010, Tom has consistently performed at the front in every championship he has contested. All of us at the team are thrilled to see another of our former champions going on to achieve great things, we’re elated for Tom and his family and wish them the very best for 2018.”
